The 9th and sadly last Annual Motherwell Charity dinner was organised by Hugh Knapp, Trustee, on the 26th February 2010. An excellent evening was had by the 200 people who attended and helped raise a further £8,000 for the fund.

These annual dinners have raised nearly £85,000 for the fund and have been hugely successful and memorable evenings in aid of the funds set up in memory of Jimmy Knapp.

The other Trustees are extremely grateful to Hugh and his family for the work they have doine towards supporting research, the hospice movement and the comforting of cancer sufferers and their families.

Jimmy Knapp Cancer Fund Gala Fundraising Dinner

A special one-off Gala Fundraising Dinner was held on Monday 8th October to celebrate the life of former Congress President and RMT General Secretary Jimmy Knapp.

In the eleven years since Jimmy's death the Jimmy Knapp Cancer Fund has now raised more than £700,000 and given substantially to a number of cancer charities.

The dinner was, not surprisingly, a sell out attended by 340 friends and supporters. Expertly hosted by Lord John Monks with special guest speakers Lord John Prescott and Prof David Cunningham from the Royal Marsden.

Brendan Barber and Frances O'Grady squeezed over £7,000 from the audience in the auction and the evening was rounded off by the excellent and very funny Jo Brand.

All-in-all the dinner raised £30,000 with an additional 'surprise' donation of £20,000 by a small group of trade unions taking the evenings proceeds up to £50,000.

Our thanks go to the many trade unions and union suppliers who supported the evening, to all those who gave so generously to support the raffle and auction and to the TUC and Congress Centre staff who made it such a wonderful evening .
